Flumen Pinheiros
The performance “Flumen Pinheiros” is a symbolic homage to the Pinheiros River, a gesture of care and recognition for the river.
The performance is part of the FLUMEN project, which Andreco Studio is developing internationally and which addresses the theme of rivers. For about fifteen years, together with Climate Art Project and Andreco studio, we have created performances dedicated to elements of the landscape: mountains, cliffs, lakes, and especially rivers, involving people from local communities. These performances aim to place rivers at the center of attention, encouraging respect and care for urban watercourses. Urban rivers are often polluted and treated like sewage. These actions seek to raise awareness and encourage people to reconsider rivers as entities that deserve respect. Over the years we have performed in Italy, China, India, Morocco, Portugal, Germany, and now Brazil. The performance is also part of the artistic research project Future Environments (Ambientes Futuros), which won the Italian Council Award for Contemporary Artists from DGCC, the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of Italy’s Ministry of Culture. The research project aims to collect scientific data and represent it through evocative artworks about the future of ecosystems. In particular, it seeks to analyze the phenomenon of environmental racism and its repercussions, interpret ecosystems from the perspective of bodies of water, build networks, and imagine new works. The flags we used for the performance represented the river before and after modernity—before and after the urbanisation of São Paulo.
